So…. what are you waiting for? There are generations out there just waiting to be discovered!

  • Consider using one of the many software programs for capturing and organising your genealogy information. (When your searching is well underway you may well amass a substantial amount of information.) These programs are often available for free with PC Magazines. Furthermore, http://www.familysearch.org has free software downloads available.

  • Remember to keep interested family members informed of your progress. You never know what else they may remember based on your findings.

  • Look at alternative ways of gaining information (e.g. graveyards, local libraries, school records etc)

  • Buy a book on the subject - most book stores are positively brimming with books on tracing your ancestors

  • Join your local or national genealogical group or society - e.g. Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society

  • Pay someone else to trace your family tree - The Association of Scottish Genealogists and Record Agents (ASGRA) http://www.asgra.co.uk holds a list of record agents
