Scotland

A new website called Scotland's People - http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - is the official Government source for Scottish family research. It is currently being developed by The General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) in partnership with Scotland On Line. It contains birth and death certificates from 1856 - 1901 plus digital images. Marriage certificates, census records and Old Parish Register records are being added this year.
The web site's Old Parish Register records date from 1553 - 1854. It is a 'pay-per-view' service.

Scots Origins - http://www.scotsorigins.com/ - contains 3 main sections: i) a birth, marriage and death information from Old Parish Register records and Statutory Registers and from 1861 - 1871 census returns; ii) a link to the IGI (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints genealogy site) and iii) a Place Name Search.

Scottish Archive Network http://www.scan.org.uk/ - contains access to Scots wills from 1500-1875, and Scottish archives' catalogues

England and Wales
http://www.pro.gov.uk - UK Public Records Office National Archives which holds records of central government and courts of law. Contains links to the Office for National Statistics, parish records, wills after 1858 and Second World War military service records.
